County Counsel's Office

Crook County Legal Counsel's client is the legal entity of Crook County, Oregon.  The Crook County Board of Commissioners is the governing body of the county.  County Counsel is prohibited from providing legal advice to the public or to parties other than to the County government.

The Office of Legal Counsel provides legal services to the County Board of Commissioners, county departments, commissions, and to individual county employees when required by the Oregon Tort Claims Act.  The Office of Legal Counsel has an attorney-client relationship with the County.  Legal Counsel is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the County Board of Commissioners.

The office's legal services include representing the county in a variety of areas including tort claims, personnel actions and discrimination claims, labor matters, land use and planning appeals, public records matters, code enforcement, constitutional challenges, foreclosure and lien actions, nuisance abatement, real property matters, worker's compensation, and public contracting regulations.  Legal services also include reviewing contracts, agreements, ordinances, policies and other County actions.
