Get a Library Card

Resident Library Cards

Crook County Library cards are free to all Crook County residents and property owners. If you're under the age of 17, you'll need to have a parent or legal guardian complete your library card application in person at the library.

To apply for a Crook County Library card, you will need:

  • A valid photo ID. These include drivers' licenses, drivers' permits, ID cards issued by state governments, military IDs, passports, or student ID cards. We will also accept business membership cards and credit cards with photos.
  • Proof of your mailing and physical address. If your current address is already on your photo ID, then that's all we need to see! Otherwise, we will accept any of the following:
    • Current motor vehicle registration
    • Current hunting/fishing license
    • Signed lease or rental agreement, or current rental receipt
    • Utility bill issued in your name within the past 30 days
    • Bank or credit card statement sent in your name within the last 30 days
    • Deed to real property, or a property tax statement
    • Entry in the Crook, Deschutes, or Jefferson County property ownership databases
    • Personal mail addressed to you, postmarked within the last 30 days.

You can also apply for a library card online and place up to 3 holds on library items. You will need to present your photo ID and proof of address in person at the library before you can receive the physical card or check out items.

Courtesy Cards

If you are in transitional or temporary housing, are experiencing homelessness, or reside in but lack a permanent address in Crook County, you may apply for a courtesy card.

Courtesy cardholders may check out up to 3 items at a time and can use the card to log into library computers. Courtesy cards are valid for 90 days. When your courtesy card expires, you may request an extension, purchase a non-resident card, or apply for a library card.

To get a courtesy card, you will need to provide proof of identity (expired or unexpired) and contact information.

Non-Resident Cards

If you don't have a permanent address or own property in Crook, Deschutes, or Jefferson County, you are eligible to purchase a non-resident card. Non-resident cardholders are granted the same lending privileges as resident cardholders.

Non-resident cards are $10 for one month, $25 for three months, and $85 for a year of library service. One payment covers all the members of a non-resident household.

Deschutes and Jefferson County residents are not eligible for Crook County non-resident cards. You may use your Deschutes Public Library or Jefferson County Library District card to check out materials and use the public computers at Crook County Library.

Facility Cards

Facility cards are issued to organizations with which the library has an outreach-based relationship. Typically, facility cards are granted to organizations that want to check out materials on behalf of their clients, residents, or users – for example, students in a residential program, patients at a treatment facility, or residents at a senior living center.

To apply for a facility card, call, email, or visit the library and request a paper application. Applications must be approved by the Director, Assistant Director, or Operations Manager. Once created, facility card users must present the card before they can check out items.

Facility administration is financially responsible for the account and an administrator must sign off on the Facility Card application.

Educator Cards

Educator cards allow teachers to check out items for 4 weeks instead of 3 and also allow for 30 holds to be placed on an account instead of the standard 15. The 100-item limit placed on all adult library cards remains the same for Educator Cards. What you need to know about getting an Educator Card:

  • Educators must show formal proof of educator status- school IDs, teacher licenses, proof of homeschool status, etc, in order to request an educator card account.
  • Educators may have either a standard resident account or an educator card, but not both.
  • Educators are financially responsible for all items checked out to their account.
