Loans
Library materials check out for 21 days. Movies and Hot Titles check out for 21 days as of August 1, 2021.
Adult patrons may have up to 100 items and juvenile patrons may have up to 50 items checked out at any given time on an account.

  • Juvenile holiday items (usually identified with one of the six major holiday stickers on the spine) may be checked out for 7 days at a time starting 30 days before each of the following holidays: Christmas, Easter, Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Valentine’s Day. Elsewhere in the year, they check out for 21 days.

Renewals
Most library materials may be renewed up to 3 times if not on hold. Hot Titles cannot be renewed.

Reserves/Holds
Patrons may have up to 15 active holds at one time on a library account. Patrons are notified by email or SMS (text) when reserved items are ready for pickup. Hot Titles cannot be placed on hold.

Fines/Fees
There are no daily overdue fines; however, items will be considered long overdue at 21 days and the account will be billed for the cost of the item. If the item remains long overdue, the account will be charged the cost of the item . Other fees:

  • Failure to pick up interlibrary loan                   $5.00 per item
  • Materials Recovery fee                                      $10.00

Accounts are restricted from checking out when fines/fees exceed $10.00.

Overdue Notices
As a courtesy, patrons with email addresses or texting services will usually receive a notice three days before an item is due. Patrons will be notified a total of 6 times by email/text of overdue items. Twenty-one days after the due date, the account will be billed for replacement of the item. We no longer issue notices via phone.

If items are returned in good condition and the item has not been deleted from the system, the replacement charges will be waived. Once an item has been deleted from the system, approximately 6 months after the due date, items cannot be returned and the patron is responsible for the replacement fee.

Materials Recovery via Unique Management Services
Accounts that owe $50 or more from fees are sent to Unique Management Services (UMS), a material recovery agency used by Crook County Library. In addition to the amount owed, these accounts are charged a $10.00 non-refundable fee.

With the exception of internet access, library services will not be available once an account is sent to UMS. Once the account is paid in full and stands at zero balance, access to library services is restored.

If materials are not returned and payment is not made, these accounts that have been submitted to UMS are credit reported at 4 months to the national credit agencies.
